History doesn’t repeat, but it rhymes — and I’ve always found that the best way to understand the present is to understand how we got here. This is a think-tank of one: essays on history, political thought, and the ideas that shaped (and are still shaping) the world.
It’s also going to be a place for shorter, Marginal-Revolution-style takes on whatever else is on my mind — a show I watched, a movie that got something right or wrong, a small cultural observation from day-to-day life. Not everything needs to be a 2000-word essay. Sometimes it’s just a paragraph and a link.
Expect posts on:
- Historical analysis and context for current events
- Political philosophy and the history of ideas
- Book, show, and movie notes — quick takes, not full reviews
- Small cultural observations worth writing down
- Long-form essays that take their time, when the topic earns it
Slow thinking and quick notes, side by side.
